My Culture, My Identity, My Heritage

In our ‘My Culture, My Identity, My Heritage’ Group/Peer Mentoring Programme, we focus on connecting our Care Experienced Black Children and Young People to a Culture, Identity and Heritage they can be Proud Of.

Black we define as a Child and Young Person whose Ethnic Origin is either African, Caribbean including Mixed Race with African or Caribbean Heritage.

My Culture, My Identity, My Heritage

Each Mentee will be guided to create their own personalised ‘My Culture, My Identity, My Heritage’ Keepsake Book (or Box), from the knowledge and insights gained from each session. The items and contents placed in the Keepsake Book (or Box) will represent the Mentee’s ethnicity, their identity and their heritage history.

The Group will be a safe and inclusive space for the Mentees to connect, spend time socialising together, celebrate diversity and share their experiences. The Group will be facilitated by Black Care Experienced Professionals, which will provide a relatable safe space for the Mentees to be inspired and encouraged, learn how to build resilience to and challenge the discrimination and racism they may experience whilst in Care and on in their Adult lives.

The Programme will also feature, Guest Spot Role Models who are Black Care Leavers and Professionals able to affirm and inspire hope in our Mentees.

The Programme will be delivered to:

  • Group maximum of 12 Mentees (age 12 - 16)

  • For 12 Weeks

  • For 1 session per week for 2hrs @ 4:30pm - 6:30pm (on Wednesdays)

  • To take place at The Transformed You Hub

At the end of the 12 weeks, each Mentee will receive a Certificate, they'll be able to take home their Keepsake Book (or Box) and have the opportunity to remain in contact with The Transformed You Hub.

Please Note: At the end of the 12 weeks, the views and experiences of the Mentees will be collated and appropriately shared with the Commissioning Local Authority or County Council to inform your Service, Policy and Practice.
